How to track YouTube Ads in ActiveCampaign

Learn effective ways to track YouTube ads in Salesforce and measure ad performance for lead generation and customer acquisition.

Youtube

Use ActiveCampaign to collect data from your YouTube ads. This helps you see how many new leads and customers come from these ads.

It’s not easy to know how many leads and customers come from your YouTube ads. Tools like Google Analytics can tell you how many people visited your website from your ads, but they can’t tell you how many leads and customers you got.

You need to send YouTube Ads data into your CRM (like ActiveCampaign) with each new lead. This way, you can run reports that show how many leads you got from your ads, which campaigns worked best, and more.

How to Use Attributer

Attributer is a tool that helps you capture YouTube Ads data in ActiveCampaign. Here’s how it works:

1. Add UTM parameters to your ads:

YouTube Ads URL

Put extra text at the end of the URL you send people to when they click your ads. This helps you track where your leads come from.

For example, if you’re sending someone to attributer.ai/integrations/activecampaign, the end URL with UTM parameters might look like this:

attributer.ai/integrations/activecampaign?utm_medium=paidsocial&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=brand-campaign

You can include information like UTM Medium (paidsocial), UTM Source (youtube), UTM Campaign (the name of your campaign), and UTM Term (the name of your ad).

2. Install Attributer and add hidden fields to your forms:

After you sign up for a 14-day free trial of Attributer, you’ll get a small snippet of code which you need to add to your site. This helps Attributer track where your leads come from.

Depending on what website builder you use (I.e. WordPress, Wix, Webflow, etc), the steps for installing the code will differ, but instructions for all of them can be seen here.

Once the code is added, you’ll need to include several hidden fields in your forms, such as:

  • Channel
  • Channel Drilldown 1
  • Channel Drilldown 2
  • Channel Drilldown 3
  • Channel Drilldown 4
  • Landing Page
  • Landing Page Group
hidden fields form

Including hidden fields is straightforward in most form-building tools (e.g., ActiveCampaign forms, Gravity Forms, Webflow, etc.), and detailed step-by-step guides for each tool can be found here.

3. Attributer writes YouTube Ads data into hidden fields:

Once everything is set up, Attributer will begin tracking the sources of your website visitors (e.g., YouTube Ads).

When someone completes a form on your website, Attributer writes the YouTube Ads data into the hidden fields. For example, if someone came from your YouTube Ads, it might write the following information into the hidden fields (depending on what information you put in the UTM parameters behind the ad):

  • Channel = Paid Social
  • Channel Drilldown 1 = YouTube
  • Channel Drilldown 2 = Brand Campaign
  • Channel Drilldown 3 = Red Ad

4. Send YouTube Ads data to ActiveCampaign:

customer detail

The YouTube Ads data is sent to ActiveCampaign with the lead’s name, email, and other information. If you’re using ActiveCampaign forms, this data will automatically appear on the contact record in ActiveCampaign. If you’re using a separate form tool, you’ll need to send this data to ActiveCampaign through an integration or a dedicated integration tool like Zapier.

  1. Cleans the data and handles inconsistencies in UTM usage:

Attributer ensures that your data is accurate and reliable, handling any inconsistencies in UTM usage and providing you with trustworthy insights.

  1. Captures landing page data as well:
